Starting a business is a big undertaking. Photographers usually have a sole proprietorship business but they still have many of the tasks that come with running a business. One of these will be setting up a website, but the work doesn’t end there. The website now has to be marketed.
Marketing Tactics
All too often individuals that start a website think that once it’s complete, people will flock to it. It’s not long before they become disappointed because this doesn’t happen. The website has to be marketed and by doing so the photographer will be marketing their business. Many established businesses use photography as part of their marketing tactics.
Being Properly Prepared
There are two major ways to market the photography website. One is through organic search, and the other is through social media. A third option is paid advertising.
- Organic Search
This is where information about the website is found in the major search engines such as Google and Yahoo to name a few. This means marketing for organic traffic. This is accomplished by making sure there is plenty of good content on the website and that it has been Search-Engine optimized. There are specific rules that are applied to this type of marketing that has to be learned.
- Social Media
Photography is one of those businesses that can be marketed well on social media platforms. These include Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Each of these can be a valuable resource for pulling in traffic to the website.
- Directories
Getting listed in the photography business directories is something else that should not be passed up. Yelp is a good example of what a business directory can look like. These directories are the modern-day version of the Yellow Pages that were used to look up business phone numbers.
All of these tactics should be implemented by the photographer who wants to grow their business.
